The Literally Illustrated Collectionof Idioms, Metaphors and Euphemisms

“It’s a figure of speech.” I found myself saying, trying to make explanation of the perplexing phrase I had just spouted to my nine year old son. A figure of speech? Many cultures use figures of speech regularly to express a thought or topic in a more relatable manner. I have always found a bit of humor in the literal interpretations of every day idioms, euphemisms and metaphors, and could not resist sketching up a few of my favorite adages! This illustrated book is highly literal, a bit tongue-in-cheek, and an homage to those figures of speech we use on a regular basis. The next time you tell someone to “Get off your high horse!” visualize it, and perhaps you will get a good chuckle at the thought. |
